Nicola Harpin

I am a qualified integrative psychotherapist working with individuals, couples, and families who are seeking support with challenges they find difficult to manage alone.  I am particularly passionate about working with those who wish to deepen their understanding of themselves, their relationships, and their place within the wider systems in which they live.

My areas of specialism include neurodiversity (ASD/ADHD), anxiety, attachment issues, grief, trauma (individual and relational), relationship difficulties, and sexual issues within relationships. Additionally, I support clients navigating pregnancy and the postnatal period, preparing for parenthood, adapting to relational change, or experiencing loss and bereavement.

I hold an MA in Contemporary Relationship Studies, which has enabled me to pursue my commitment to helping others improve and strengthen their everyday human connections.  My aim is to provide a safe, compassionate, and non-judgmental space where personal and relational challenges can be explored openly.  Together, we work towards acceptance, resolution, growth, and greater fulfilment in life.

Life inevitably brings challenges, and at times we may need the care, compassion, and support of another to move through them.  Gaining a deeper awareness of ourselves, our intimate relationships, and our wider communities can provide the resilience and courage needed to face these difficulties.  My role is to offer a secure, supportive environment where we are heard and listened to, and a place in which you can explore your experiences, understand their impact, and move towards meaningful and positive change.

My approach

As an integrative therapist, I draw on a range of therapeutic approaches, including systemic and psychodynamic practices, emotion-focused therapy (EFT), and cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT).  This allows me to tailor sessions to the unique needs of each client, working collaboratively towards agreed therapeutic goals.

I am a gender, sex, and relationship diversity (GSRD) affirmative therapist and offer both in-person and online sessions.

How it all began

From a young age, I was drawn to supporting others through talking and listening, and I discovered a natural ability to listen with empathy and communicate effectively.  The loss of my mother was a turning point that inspired me to reach out and support others, giving me the courage to step forward in times of need.  This experience became the catalyst for my counselling journey.

I have since gained professional experience as a counsellor with CRUSE Bereavement Support, Sheffield Adult Autism and Neurodevelopmental Service (SAANS), Sheffield Central Counselling (SCC), and within my own private practice, working with individuals, couples, and groups.
