Gillian Trueman
I consider it a genuine privilege to work within the counselling space. Building a therapeutic relationship grounded in trust, safety, growth, and meaningful change is something I approach with great care and respect. I do not take this responsibility lightly and value the opportunity to learn and grow alongside each of my clients. I strongly believe that counselling should be accessible to everyone and I warmly welcome individuals from the neurodivergent community.
My Approach
I believe that clients are the
experts in their own lives, and my role is to support and empower them to make
the changes they need in order to live a fuller, more meaningful life.
I am educated to Master’s level, having studied Pluralistic Counselling at the University of Abertay in Dundee. This integrative approach enables me to develop a deep understanding of each client’s unique experiences and needs, and to draw upon the most appropriate therapeutic modalities for their individual circumstances. My work is often informed by Transactional Analysis (TA), Person-Centred, and Gestalt approaches.
Where It All Began
My journey into counselling began through my own experience of therapy in 2017, following a particularly challenging period in my life. After my GP suggested counselling, it became one of the most transformative and meaningful experiences I have undertaken for myself. Later, while working with a child who shared that I was the only person they felt able to talk to, the seed was truly sown and I decided to train as a counsellor. After graduating in 2023, I worked for a charity before relocating from my beloved Scotland to Sheffield and joining Sheffield Central Counselling.
