Elly Sinclair (she/her)
I work face-to-face and online with couples and individuals. I aim to create a safe and secure place to talk and be listened to in safety. Emotional safety matters deeply to me, I see it as essential for growth and change.
I qualified as a Counsellor with a Master’s in Relationship
Therapy in 2025 and as a member of British Association for Counselling and
Psychotherapy (BACP), work within their professional and ethical guidelines. I have
regular individual and group supervision and consistently develop my practice
through CPD.
Before training as a therapist, I worked in charities for
over 20 years, supporting LGBTQIA+ young people and their families, as well as
supporting individuals to navigate their way to safety after experiences of
abuse.
I am a white, queer, middle class, cisgender woman. I have a
particular interest in how trauma and discrimination impact how you relate to
others - including between you and I. I am open to being challenged and welcome
feedback when I make mistakes.
My approach
Working with Couples
Relationships are hard and it’s common to feel like things
are going wrong and you don’t know how to find your way back to each
other. You might be noticing lots of
conflict, distance from each other or a sense that you need to put walls up to
protect yourself from them.
I will accompany you with compassion, empathy, rigor, keen
observation and light heartedness to help you feel safe enough to explore what
might be going on in the dynamic between you.
Over time we can work together to reveal the repeating patterns of
reactions and the vulnerabilities beneath. This is a process which takes
courage but can be transformative for your relationship.
I have worked successfully with couples bringing:
- repeating patterns of conflict
- distance and isolation
- the impact of an affair
- conflicts over alcohol
- a feeling that the relationship isn’t working, or may be over
- parenting difficulties
· Working with Individuals
I aim to
create a safe environment that enables you to explore the issues that are
bringing you to counselling, whether that is a particular experience or
patterns that you want to change. I have
an interest in bringing compassion to parts you want to change for you to show
up in the world in different ways.
Where it all began
I have always worked within helping professions and have
really enjoyed supporting people. I trained as a therapist as I
believe counselling has the potential to enable people to live the life they
deserve. It has the potential to set
people free through enabling them to loosen past beliefs and patterns.
Feedback from Elly's clients
“Couples counselling has enabled us to communicate more openly with each other without being worried about upsetting or offending the other partner. We are more understanding of each other and have learnt how to be more direct and clear when communicating. It has helped us in so many different situations to navigate it together rather than apart.”
"Therapy is difficult and your service provision was kind supportive and friendly, creating an open environment for sharing".
