Why we came to counselling
We decided to try counseling for couples because we both realised our marriage was in trouble and we needed to do something about it. We had drifted apart and felt more like housemates than husband and wife. We were both unhappy but were finding it hard to talk openly with each other.
How counselling helped us
We were anxious about coming to the first appointment. We didn’t know what to expect from counselling and didn’t know if it would work. We were surprised at how helpful we found it. The sessions helped us to focus on the real issues in our relationship rather than avoiding them. We were able to talk about things we wouldn’t have talked about at home. Having a counsellor there to mediate helped us feel more able to open up and less anxious that being honest might hurt the other person. We decided to change the way we relate to each other and this has helped us grow closer again.
Life after counselling
Now that we’ve come to the end of the sessions we feel so much more positive and are enjoying time together again. It feels exciting to be making a fresh start. We can’t thank you enough – if we hadn’t come for counselling we believe our relationship would have ended.
